Project rooms
A project room is a chat room with a project panel alongside it. The chat is where the work happens; the panel keeps files, links, tasks, polls and decisions together, so the important things don't get lost in the message stream.
Beta
Project rooms are in beta. The feature is switched on per workspace and is only available in business accounts on my.onmeil.eu. If you don't see Project Rooms in the left-hand menu, it hasn't been enabled for your workspace yet.
Where to find it
Open Project Rooms in the left-hand menu. The overview shows three numbers at the top — active project rooms, open tasks and need attention (rooms with the status At risk, Blocked or Waiting) — and one card per room with its status, the number of files, tasks, polls and decisions, and Last activity.
- New project room creates a room. See Create and members.
- Refresh project rooms reloads the list.
- Open project room on a card opens the chat with the project panel on the right.
You'll also find your rooms in Tasks under Shared projects → All project rooms.
If you see the message “Couldn't load project rooms”, the feature is either not switched on for the workspace, or access to the service has been restricted by an administrator. Chat and the other modules work as before.
Who can create a room
Any member of a business workspace where project rooms are enabled can create a room. Whoever creates the room becomes its Owner. Members are picked from the workspace's user list and get one of the roles Owner, Lead, Member, Viewer or External. The roles are described in Create and members.
The project panel
At the top of the panel you see the room's name, description, status, your role and updated {date}. Owners and Leads can change the status in the drop-down menu:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | The room is under way |
| On track | Work is going to plan |
| At risk | Something could upset the plan |
| Blocked | Work has stopped — open tasks are marked Blocked |
| Waiting | Waiting on someone outside the room — open tasks are marked Waiting |
| Done | The project has been delivered |
At risk, Blocked and Waiting count as “need attention” in the overview.
The tabs
| Tab | Contents |
|---|---|
| Overview | Counts for files, tasks, polls and decisions, Project Pulse and the Responsibility box with Owner and Leads |
| Members | Member list with roles; add, remove and change roles |
| Files | Files from Files linked to the project, with their approval status |
| Links | External resources with a category and a preview |
| Tasks | A board with columns, owner and due date |
| Polls | Quick choices with options and votes |
| Decisions | Durable decisions, optionally with a follow-up task |
| Activity | For now only shows the text “Activity appears as the project receives more events.” |

From the chat to the panel
Below messages in a project room you'll find buttons that save the content to the panel:
- Save link for each web address in the message → the Links tab
- Task → a new task in the Tasks tab
- Decision → a new decision in the Decisions tab (Owner and Lead only)
The items are marked From chat with the sender's name. When a poll is closed, a decision is created or a file is approved, meil posts a system message in the chat.
Start small
The panel suggests the next step itself: “Start with a file, task, poll or decision.” A single item is enough for the room to start giving you an overview.
