What's included
This page goes through the twelve areas described on the business page on onmeil.eu, in the same order. Each section says briefly what you get, and links on to the page that documents that area in detail.
Which plan includes what is set out in Plans. If you are setting up the workspace for the first time, follow Getting started for business.
1. Email
Email on your own domain, with shared inboxes for addresses such as salg@, support@ and info@. A thread in a shared inbox can be assigned to one person, so the team can see who has picked it up. Aliases, distribution lists, labels, rules and a vacation responder are all part of it, and DKIM, SPF, DMARC, MTA-STS and DANE are set up for the domain.
See Email for day-to-day use, and Email and domains for shared inboxes and lists.
2. Calendar
Personal calendars and team calendars, with free/busy sharing. Invitations can carry a meeting link, and guests without a meil account reply Yes, Maybe or No straight from the email. The calendar syncs to Apple, Outlook and Thunderbird over CalDAV, and you can subscribe to colleagues' calendars and to external ones.
See Calendar.
3. Video meetings
Meetings run in the browser, with no app for the host or the guests. Every account has a permanent personal room with the same link every time, and a meeting can be started straight from a calendar invitation. The room has screen sharing, a lobby and breakout rooms.
See Video meetings.
4. Files
Shared folders for each team, with access set per person: Can view or Can edit. Documents, spreadsheets and presentations in the .docx, .xlsx and .pptx formats are edited by several people at once in the browser. Every file keeps its version history, and share links can have a password, an expiry date and email confirmation.
See Files.
5. Tasks
Tasks are gathered in Inbox, Today, Upcoming and Scheduled, as a list or a Kanban board. You can create a task from an email, a file or a chat message, with a link back to the source. Scheduled date and due date are two separate fields, and tasks can have a checklist, a priority, tags and a repeat.
See Tasks.
6. Chat
Direct messages and team rooms on the Matrix protocol. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted by default, and the keys stay on your employees' devices. You can verify colleagues' devices and set up key backup with a recovery key. Customers and partners who also use meil can be invited in when an administrator allows it, and they are marked External.
See Chat.
7. Project rooms (beta)
One room per project, with chat, files, tasks, polls and decisions in one place. The roles in a room are owner, lead, member and viewer. Files are linked from Files rather than copied in.
Beta
Project rooms are in beta and are being rolled out gradually. The feature is switched on for one workspace at a time, and the Project Pulse overview inside the room is rolled out separately.
See Project rooms.
8. Login and access
meil is the identity provider for the systems your organisation already uses. You register their apps in Admin, and your employees sign in to them with their meil account — anything that speaks OIDC or SAML 2.0. Access groups control who reaches which apps, and SCIM 2.0 lets the HR system create and close down employees. Passkeys and two-factor authentication apply to every account.
See Identity.
9. The admin console
Users, roles, domains, shared mailboxes, branding, billing and logs are all managed from Admin. The console shows the DNS records the domain needs and checks that they are correct, email security is followed up continuously, and the audit log shows who did what. Support access is granted for a limited time and is approved by the employee themselves.
See Admin overview.
10. Network protection
The office network points at meil's DNS servers, and lookups to known malware, phishing, botnet and cryptomining domains are stopped before the browser gets through. You control the categories yourself and can add your own allow and block lists. The query log shows what was looked up and what was stopped. The protection is tied to the office's fixed IP address, so machines away from the office are not covered.
See DNS / Web protection.
11. Devices
A read-only overview of Mac, Windows and Linux machines: hardware, operating system, disk usage, battery health, where they are and when they last checked in. Installed software is matched against known vulnerabilities (CVE). Remote control and enforcement are not part of the overview, but have been announced as a separate tier later on.
See Device management.
12. Desktop app
The desktop app mirrors the meil folder between your machine and the browser: whatever you put in the folder shows up in Files, and the other way round. Selected folders outside the sync folder can be backed up as well, each machine with its own archive, and restored onto a new machine. Deleted files stay in Trash for 30 days.
See Desktop app for the platforms the app is available on today, and Mobile App and PWA for mobile.

Contacts are part of it too
The shared address book, groups and CardDAV are documented under Contacts, even though they are not a separate area on the business page.
